Blue panicum is an introduced forage grass from India and can grow 18 to 80 inches tall. Blue panicum has good forage value for livestock and fair forage value for wildlife. Prussic acid poisoning can be a concern with Blue panicum if pastures are fertilized during certain stages of growth. However, due to fertilization requirments, the grass is not usually planted as a monoculture. When planted in mixes, the grass provides fawn cover and seed for game birds.
