Plains bristlegrass grows 1 to 4 feet tall and displays a yellow-green color while growing. It is palatable for all types of livestock and seeds are readily used by both game and song birds. Because of palatability, plains bristlegrass is seldomly a dominant grass in pasture but provides moderate to high quality forage for all types of grazing livestock when available. Increasing the grass requires witholding grazing during the growing season as well as seed crop development, via rest, every few years.
