Native - Perennial - Warm Season
Also known as silvery beardgrass, split bluestem, and feather bluestem, split beard bluestem is a slender native perennial bunchgrass that grows 2 to 4 feet tall. The grass is moderately shade tolerant and is seldom the dominate plant in a community. Split beard bluestem is a good spring time grazer for cattle, effective for erosion control in poor sandy soils, is sometimes chosen for native ornamental landscaping, and provides cover for wildlife such as birds and small mammals.
