Triticale is a small grain crop that is the reult of a cross between wheat (Triticum) and rye (Secale). Generally triticale combines the yield potential and quality of wheat with the disease and environmental tolerance of rye. The triticale root system is aggressive and binds lighter soils better than wheat, barley, and oats. Triticale is tolerant of a wide variety of soils and typically performs better than other ceral grains in water logged soils as well as alkaline soils (high pH). Triticale grain is about twice as soft as wheat. While this provides a milling advantage, it also increase insect damage during storage.

Hustler triticale is a medium/late maturing awned forage type triticale that yields tall growing, dense canopy, stands. Hustler triticale is a facultative triticale and can be spring or fall seeded.
